Time to start adding some details to Zoe’s room that reflect her personality and experiences. Here are some ideas:

  • The signature colour of Ari’s Cakes is light blue with swirly script. Maybe Zoe has a sample blue box from Ari’s Cakes in her room (like the ones she had to fold!)

  • Ruby Willow’s cookbook; it could be on her desk or bookshelf, or open to a recipe. Or maybe a recipe is copied onto a recipe card. The recipes she tried in this section are  fried oreos and raspberry crumble. What other books might Zoe have?

  • Zoe taste-tests fig-spice cupcakes at Ari’s. Maybe she has a cupcake with a bite out of it on her desk!

  • Zoe starts the Little Tomato Playlist. She might have a list of songs taped to her wall, or her phone with a set of earbuds. The songs added so far are: Isn’t She Lovely (Stevie Wonder), Signed sealed Delivered I’m Yours (Stevie Wonder), Superstition (Stevie Wonder), Hang on Little Tomato (Pink Martini), Water Runs Dry (Boyz to Men). *leave room to add more! Or maybe just a phone with a set of earbuds.

  • Zoe’s stationery, that she uses to write to Marcus,  has one dark purple line going around the perimeter and on the top, in script, it says ‘from the desk of Zoe Washington’. She might also have envelopes and stamps. She might have drafts crumpled  in her garbage bin.

  • Zoe writes in a notebook from Jasmine that has a monogram  Z made of flowers on the cover. She writes using a purple pen. These might be on her desk or bed.

Writing Prompt

Zoe’s grandmother tells Zoe that ‘there are multiple sides to everyone; people aren’t all black and white. Sometimes good people do bad things and bad people do good things’. Can you think of a real life example of this?
